Questions
and Answers: |
Is the
DigiClam a computer or a computer based recorder?
I would say the most important
trait of the DigiClam is that it is not a computer.
It is a stand alone DDR with hardware video compression.
This means it cannot crash. The answer to everyone's
dream for a field recorder that is not computer
based! |

Is slow-motion
playback smooth? |
Yes, it is perfectly smooth.
Only on MJPEG recorder jitters, We use MPEG-2. |
Will
a signal breakout or a bad video transmission crash
or freeze the DigiClam? |
No, the DigiClam has built
in TBC meaning it will record even without signal.
Just like a tape deck. |
Can
IN and OUT points be entered during playback? |
Yes. IN and OUT points can
be entered during recording or playback. |
Frame
advance is erratic and frames do not advance smoothly.
Is this normal? |
Yes it is normal. We are
working with MPEG-2 transport stream format which
is a very robust format and is tolerant to bad or
disrupted signal, but it is not frame accurate.
Can
we power DigiClam with 24V ? |
Yes you can. The DigiClam
you can be powered from 10V-30V DC. Before attempting
this please check with Y-VAMP to ensure your model
has that option. |
What is the
need of two 4pin XLR plugs? |
It has dual convenience functionality:
- You can use the second (whichever is empty)
to power another device. For example the optional
UHF receiver.
- If you are working on a battery and a warning
message appears on the screen to change the
battery, you can plug the NEW battery to the
empty plug without unplugging the first battery
and without powering off the DigiClam. WARNING:
After plugging the NEW battery you must unplug
the first one.
How
long we can run DigiClam on NP battery? |
Depends on the capacity.
For example: 3.6 A/h battery would give 1.75 hours. |
With
regard to the hard drives, are they STD HDDs or
a particular make or brand name? (i.e. for future
reference if HDD fails can we purchase a new one
locally?) |
We are using STD HDDs as
there are no special requirements to make them work.
Just plug them and initialize them. |
Does
it log Slates and takes? And can it ID Slates like
127A? |
Yes it has a Film type logging
system XXX999XXX up to 999 takes. Also the Log system
has two modes: 1- Rehearsal mode and 2- Take mode. |
Can
you ID preferred takes (Star Lists)? |
We have a Playlist which
can be used for a Strait Cut or for a Star List
which is very easy to work with it. |
Can we search
a take in a scene? |
We have Search function based
on Scene #, and Take #. |
If IN/OUT points
were assigned, can we assign new ones? |
To re-assign IN/OUT points,
simply play the take and enter new points. The old
ones will be deleted automatically. |
How
can we assign IN/OUT points that are outside of
the old ones? |
If the new points are outside
of the old points: you play the take hit Rev Play,
this will stop on the IN point. From here hit Reverse
Play again and it will play the first portion of
the take that was trimmed. Hit IN point to make
a new one at any desired moment. Use the same logic
to put new OUT point. |
How
can we fix the logging if we missed a take? |
If you missed take #6, your
last take # is 5. So just record something larger
then 3 sec in order to make DigiClam to advance
to take #6 and not to affect your log. |
In
Live or record mode I have 1sec delayed image coming
out of the DigiClam. How can I fix it? |
Go to Utilities and Force
DigiClam to IINPUT. |
My
audio level is coming out from the XLR output is
low? |
XLR output has the same level
as the input. It is not adjustable. Most likely
you are inputting a balanced (low impedance) signal,
or input level signal is low. |
Does
DigiClam have component or SDI inputs and outputs?
Not at the moment. We are
currently working on a version that will have them. |
